I took two girls from the Waianae Youth Sailing Program to the Greenhow Regatta at Pacific Yacht Club, Hickam Harbor. This was Kate and Caitlin's first race and we took first place!

We had champagne at the fuel dock and a wonderful farewell dinner on Friday Night.

We did have a few days when the wind was very light. We did not want to burn all of our fuel so we broke out the spinnaker.

Broken windvane self steering

On day 4 the servo pendulum rudder on the windvane self steering broke. The picture shows the metal failure that was up inside the unit where we could not see it before departure.
The rest of the trip required hand steering. The crew was fantastic. We all took our turns at the wheel. Life boiled down to eat, sleep and steer with maintenance and sail changes thrown in on a regular basis.

Arrived in San Diego

We arrived in San Diego at 3 p.m. on Friday July 25th.
We were at sea for 28 days. We hit some rough weather but overall it was a good trip.

We will have plenty of safety equipment on this voyage, but no internet. We will be checking in to a land base by Satellite phone daily. And we will be checking in on the ham radio net. The Pacific Seafarers net will post our position on their website. So if you want to follow the voyage you can go to

This will only give you our position and weather. You will know that if we checked in we are OK. If we don’t check in don’t panic, just pray harder. It could be any number of things that keep us from the radio schedule that are not emergencies.

The rigging arrived and has been installed.

Lists are getting checked off. Pushing our departure date back 5 days has given us all time to prepare for the voyage
